the first step

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!! It’s day 1 and here we are, LIVE! Make sure you check out the ‘about me’ page to get to know a little more about the author and sign up today so you can start leaving me comments and we can all get to know each other a little better.

The quote is from Lao-tzu, ancient Chinese Philosopher, and can be traced back to over 500 years BC. Now they didn’t have blogs back then and it was a little harder to get your ideas out there, but these great philosophers and writers are still influencing our ideas and thoughts today and you can find these quotes on magnets and posters all over the world. Imagine being so respected and influential in your time that over 2000 years later, people are still inspired by your teachings and seek out to learn more about you.

Now I don’t profess that this blog will be any such inspiration and I don’t dare compare myself to the honourable Lao-tzu or any other great philosopher but it did make me wonder, who are our modern day philosophers and where are we getting our inspiration from today?

Ask any 13 year old on the street and you would probably get answers like Justin Bieber, One Direction, Kim Kardashian and Justin Timberlake. While I confess that Keeping up with the Kardashians is one of my guilty reality TV show pleasures (I’m actually downright obsessed with it), the only thing about the show that gives me inspiration is the sister’s collection of Chanel handbags! Justins Bieber & Timberlake, I suppose you could say, have made an incredible success out of some very real talent and hard work, and One Direction’s meteoric rise to fame is nothing short of amazing, but inspiring? Don’t hate me tweens, I’m not dissing the Biebs or One Direction, check out my iPod play list, I get it.

I started this blog to pass on the things that inspire me, and hopefully they will inspire you too. Stories about my  friends and family, articles I read, music I hear, TV and movies… really, inspiration is everywhere, sometimes we just need a little help finding it beneath all the hype and gloss.

So now that we’re live I am hoping to get around 3 articles up each week. They’ll be about all different topics and hopefully there’ll be a message in each that relates to you. Remember to share the articles with your friends and family and tell them to join up if you think it would interest them. You can also keep up with me on Facebook and Twitter (@ebbycarson)

I’d love to hear about what or who inspires you – Just click the title of this article to open the full screen and leave comments.

Congratulations – taking the first step is always the hardest, but I truly believe that being brave and going with your heart is the right way to go! 🙂

Lots of things inspire me. But having someone to love and someone to love you back gives you inspiration. I don’t aspire to much though, but when I do need inspiration I look to those who have been successful in helping other who are less fortunate, hence the social work degree I am studying.
